Before the school closed for summer, Jah’s Ketones took a dip and were very low for about a week. Jah was getting ready for school one morning, he was up earlier than usual and he had a myoclonic seizure. This was unusual for him since being on the diet, so I called the dietitian and she recommended we reduce his carbs down to 20g per day. Surprisingly enough we have found it quite easy and now we have the kids off school for the summer, meals are nicer and warmer for Jah at home with us. The school have now offered some support with his lunch and we had a trial lunch just before the holidays which went quite well. I’m hoping Jah starts to like her cooking as it will be much easier for me. I have decided to allow him to have a school meal once a week for about a month, then increase it to two a week for a month and so on until he is having school meals every day. I’m hoping anyway!
School cook has had to have intense training from me regarding Jahs Diet. Jah has been crying about his school lunch, he doesn’t like cold food much and he was crying about having to have packed lunches from me while his friends have warm meals. I think the cook is going to be ok, she sent home her Bolognese recipe that Jah ate, he said “it was too hot and not like mommy’s.” But he ate it. I have allowed her 5g carb for the dinner and 2g carb for pudding. I’m praying she gets it right.
The last consultation we had, the Doctor was unable to attend so we just saw the Epilepsy nurse and Dietitian, Jah’s Carnitor levels which are supplemented from a previous deficiency have gone up high, they are going to double-check the dose reduction with the Consultant Doctor and contact me about this, we may even be able to stop this supplement.
